    Quiz - Ques and Ans

    in Quiz - Q/A

Ques from a participant, Mrs. Anu Kulkarni

Hello Dr. Satya, in yesterday's quiz I had difficulty understanding why the Bhagavad Geeta is Smriti. If it is easy enough to explain, could you please clarify. I appreciate the quiz since it is gradually deepening my understanding of this sacred scripture. 💐

    Reply from Dr. Satyanarayana

'Shruti' is product of divine revelation- apaurusheya- and Vedas are considered under this

'Smriti' is 'recollection' of concepts already presented in and agrees with 'Shruti'. It is established that the same God who spoke the Veda in the beginning of creation subsequently came down and preached this Smriti. It was first told to Sun God, subsequently to next generations through Manu and Isvaku. Gita is a part of Mahabharata and it is recollection, therefore Smriti.

Pls refer to verse 4.1 and Prasthāna trayam for more details.
